Every year, Vancouver Film School partners with leading institutions across Latin America to award exclusive scholarships to aspiring filmmakers, animators, designers, game creators, writers, and performers. These scholarships help talented students pursue industry-focused training in Canada so that they can build careers in the global creative industries.
Ƶ° maintains a strong reputation with international creatives. In fact, 46% of Ƶ° students (as of June 2026) are from outside of Canada. Of this number, our Latin American students make up the greatest percentage (21% of Ƶ°’s total current students are from Latin America). This is due, in part, to these incredible scholarship opportunities.
This week, we’re diving into our partnerships with Latin American schools, current available scholarships, an interview with a current scholarship recipient, and more.
NOTE: This blog will be continually updated to highlight available scholarships. See “Current Available Scholarships” below for more information.

THE IMPORTANCE OF SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ASPIRING TALENT
These partnerships are designed to create pathways for talented students who may not otherwise have access to international creative training. By working directly with respected institutions across Latin America, Ƶ° can identify emerging talent and help students continue their education in our production-focused environment.
SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS BECOME Ƶ° AMBASSADORS
Ƶ° scholarships don’t just end at enrolment. All scholarship winners have the opportunity to join Ƶ°’s Creative Ambassador Program, an initiative where students work alongside our Social Media Lead to share their student experience on Ƶ°’s official social media channels through fun and engaging original content.
Our Instagram page alone caters to over 130,000 followers! The Creative Ambassador Program is a great way for Ƶ° students to connect with one another while harnessing their creativity.
A RECENT SCHOLARSHIP WINNER SHARES THEIR EXPERIENCE
Currently enroled in Ƶ°’s Film Production program, Santiago Ramirez shared with us what it meant to receive a scholarship and how the program has already transformed his skills.
Welcome to Ƶ°, Santiago! What inspired you to pursue film, and what made you decide to study Film Production at Vancouver Film School?
I wanted to study at Ƶ° because it was the best way to gain international-level experience and meet people who are just as passionate about film as I am. So far, both have proven to be true. The instructors here are people I admire, and I believe they are among the best people to teach us. For example, in our Assistant Director class, Tesa Mol is the instructor, and she became the youngest 1st AD on a big-budget show in 2017, working on The Flash.
What has been the biggest highlight of your experience in the Film Production program so far?
So far, the biggest highlight has been the method and perspective through which the program teaches us everything related to film. Every Thursday, we receive the schedule for the following week, which means we always have a very tailored calendar of classes, and no two weeks are the same. Through this approach, they progressively teach us everything from setting up cameras and lighting rigs to script development.
What does receiving a Ƶ° Scholarship mean to you and your creative career?
Receiving a Ƶ° Scholarship means that I was able to come here and bring my filmmaking skills up to an industry standard. Something many of our instructors have said is: “We are teaching you everything you should know so that tomorrow you can walk onto a professional, big-budget set,” and that is exactly what I want.
What advice would you give to aspiring Latin American creators who are considering applying for a Ƶ° scholarship or pursuing a career in the entertainment industry?
I would advise Latin American creators to think about where they see themselves in five years, what their dream job is, what positions they want to pursue, or what stories they want to tell. Most of those ideas are very ambitious, and the best way to achieve them is by starting small and, through different projects, gaining the knowledge and experience needed to reach that dream.
This is the best workflow I have developed for filmmaking: approaching projects of different scales while always trying to learn something new. Reading and theory are necessary, but film production also requires hands-on experience. For example, I had to apply twice to win the scholarship I currently have. The first time, I had only made two short films and I was extremely underprepared. The second time I applied, I had directed 11 short films and worked on seven other projects in different roles.
